Background
Little is known, as yet, about children with ARFID, given that this classification was only recently included in the DSM-5. Our aim is to define this client group and identify the factors associated with their eating problems. Ultimately, we hope to help improve treatment.
The research study
We are researching the role of child factors, environmental factors and parental factors associated with ARFID eating issues. The research study comprises a diagnostic interview, conducted as standard in ARFID diagnostic testing, and a short online questionnaire for the parents and child. The interview provides insight into ARFID-related characteristics and the child’s background. The online questionnaire then reveals factors that may play a role in the problem’s development and persistence. Child factors, environmental factors and parental factors are distinguished.
