IDT
The Interactive Drawing Test: Assessing its value in the diagnosis of autism at Accare
To diagnose autism, we conduct a comprehensive assessment. This involves interviewing the parents and the child, as well as performing additional tests. Some parts of this process can be intensive and demanding for both the child and the professionals involved. The Interactive Drawing Test (IDT) was developed to support autism diagnostics in a less demanding way. We are currently studying the usefulness of the IDT in the diagnostic process for autism.
Who can participate?
-
Children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 years
-
The child or adolescent was referred to Accare
-
The child or adolescent underwent a routine clinical diagnostic assessment at the clinic
-
The ADOS-2 was administered to the child or adolescent
-
The SDQ was completed by the parents
-
Classification information about the child is available
Background
The IDT is a new test that helps assess social behavior. This is important in determining whether someone has autism. Initial studies show that the test works well. However, we want to ensure its reliability. That's why we're now conducting an independent study.
Therapists at Accare are positive about the IDT. They believe it can be very helpful in making a diagnosis. We are investigating whether the IDT is truly reliable and useful for children and young people being screened for autism.
The research study
In this study, we examine how well the IDT works for children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 who have been referred for autism assessment.
We investigate the test's reliability by examining whether different assessors yield the same results and whether the test yields the same results when repeated at a later time.
We also examine whether the test measures what it's intended to. We do this by comparing the IDT with the ADOS, an existing autism test, and with other characteristics such as behavior and IQ. Finally, we investigate whether there are differences in IDT scores between boys and girls. All information, except the IDT, is routinely collected in autism diagnostics.
Results
The first results are expected in mid-2027.
