PAINT-T Trial
In the PAINT-T Trial, we investigate the effectiveness of the brief teacher training. We want to know whether the brief training helps to reduce behavioral problems of children in the classroom. With this study, we aim to determine whether the brief teacher training is more effective in reducing behavioral problems than the regular care provided at elementary schools.
What is the goal of the study?
In the PAINT-T Trial, we examine whether a brief teacher training helps to reduce behavioral problems in children in the classroom. Our aim is to provide accessible support to teachers and children with behavioral issues at school.
How is the study structured?
Teachers of children with behavioral problems from grades 1 to 8 in Dutch elementary education can participate. The teacher training consists of three sessions and is conducted by experienced trainers. Participating teachers will be randomly assigned to a group. One group of teachers will receive the short training immediately, while another group will wait for a maximum of eight weeks before receiving the training. During the waiting period, teachers will receive regular support from the collaborative partnership or care institution.
How far along is the study?
We started the research in November 2023, and teachers can participate in the training until July 2025.
Students and teachers can participate in the study if:
• The student is in grades 1 to 8 of regular education, special basic education, or cluster 4 of special education in The Netherlands.
• The student exhibits behavioral problems in the classroom.
• The student is not taking medication for behavioral issues.
• The student does not have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (suspicions of ASD are not a problem).
• The teacher is in front of the class for at least three days with the student.
• The teacher has not participated in any teacher training in the past year.
• The teacher has not already participated in PAINT-T with another student.
